Job Search Advice During COVID-19

If you’re wondering how to job search during COVID-19, you’re not alone. Many people are asking themselves this very question. For this reason, we’ve put together these tips to help you keep your job search active during the coronavirus pandemic.

⇢   Refresh your LI profile…we can’t stress this enough! Add a professional photo and update your information.

⇢   Take this time to get any certifications or licensing that you may have been putting off. Having these could increase your marketability either in your current role or in the future.

⇢   Build your network. Find a recruiter that specializes in your industry, discuss the market, your career goals, types of opportunities that are attractive to you. As a recruiter, we have valuable industry insight (especially now).

⇢   Use this time to reflect. Create a one-page document that lists your target industry, dream companies, job titles, ideal salary, and anything else you consider important for your next career move.

⇢   Consider answers to common interview questions. While you won’t be able to predict every question, you’ll be asked in an interview, there are a few common questions you can plan answers for. Also, take some time to develop an elevator pitch that quickly describes who you are, what you do, and what you want.

⇢   Prepare for a virtual interview. Scout out a good quiet spot in your home that would be well-suited for a professional interview. Ask a friend to conduct a mock interview with you virtually, so you can test out the sound and connection.

In closing, try not to get disheartened in the job search process. It’s important to focus on what you can control—improving your skills, reaching out to your network, and preparing for future interviews. Many industries are trying to navigate through this. It’s a very fluid environment. There is – and will be – the need for experienced talent and new opportunities on the horizon. Stay the course!  We are #allinthistogether.
